The 30th Anniversary of the eruption of Mt. St. Helens took place at Johnston Ridge Visitors Center on May 18, 2010. The distance from I-5, at Castle Rock, is about 51 miles. It is a spectacular drive on a very nice paved road. You will pass Silver Lake, Hoffstat Bluff Visitors Center and the Forest Service Learning Center. The featured speakers were Diane Cook and Len Jenshel. They are free lance photographers that took the pictures for the Mt. St. Helens article in the May 2010 National Geographic Magazine. The weather was not good to us so the mountain was covered with clouds. Click here for some pictures of Mt. St. Helens taken by air on April 27, 2006. Click here for the Mt. St. Helens Institute.
