Horseshoe Lake

Horseshoe Lake, is located on the Cowlitz-Clark County line, in the City of Woodland. This 85 acre lake has a maximum depth of 16 feet and a mean depth of 6 feet. There are three miles of shoreline including Horseshoe Lake Park. When US 99 (now I-5) was built in 1940 a bend in the river was isolated and became Horseshoe Lake.

Wedding of Matthew Patching and Melody Bockhahn
Matt and Malinda took their wedding vows under partly cloudy skies, in the Gazebo at Horseshoe Lake Park, in Woodland, on June 13, 2009. It was a beautiful wedding with a beautiful bride and groom. The flower girl was too cute. The white flowing wedding gown elicited wows form everyone. Friends and relatives from far and wide attended. Grass Carp Planted in Horseshoe Lake

On May 27, 2009 250 Grass Carp were planted in Woodland's Horseshoe Lake. Rich Cuniningham with Opaline Aqua-Farm delivered the fish. The carp keep the lake clean by eating excess aquatic plant material (milfoil). The fish are sterile, triploid fish. The process for producing triploid fish involves shocking eggs with rapid change in temperature or pressure. Click here for more pictures.

The lake is open for fishing year around. It is a great spot for the whole family and a perfect place to teach the kids how to fish. Rainbow and brown trout are planted as are some steelhead and brood trout. There are some bass and other warm water fish also.
