The drive to Merrill Lake is spectacular. The 344 acre lake is surrounded by beautiful wooded hillsides. There is an ramp where you can launch your boat but internal combustion engines are prohibited. This lake contains coastal cutthroat, brown trout to several pounds, and some rainbow trout. Fly fishing only. Fishing is best in the evening. A great lake to enjoy paddling your canoe and enjoying the solitude.
There is a small Department of Natural Resources camp site. This site fills up fast and is
on a first come first serve basis. Merrill Lake is open to fly fishing year round, but the DNR
campground and boat launch are generally only open mid-May to mid-September There are
seven walk-in only sites, but no water or garbage pick-up. And no space for RV's.
Our thanks to Diane Becker, Volunteer Coordinator, SW Region, Department of Natural Resources, for help with this information.
