City of Ridgefield Selects New Mayor and Mayor Pro Tempore

Ridgefield, WA, January 11, 2008 – The City of Ridgefield, Washington is pleased to announce the selection of Ronald Onslow as Mayor.
Mr. Onslow moved to Ridgefield in 2005 with his wife, and has been a resident of Clark County nearly all of his life. Ron is currently retired but has managed Onslow’s Restaurant in Vancouver, owned and operated three other restaurants and one deli-bakery. He has also been very active in his community, as a coach for softball, swimming and football.
Ron brings to the Council vast experience working with various boards and commissions as President and Board member of the Northwest Ski Club Council, Vancouver Chamber of Commerce and Vancouver Junior Chamber of Commerce, Miss Washington pageant, American Softball Association and remains on the Advisory Board for the Culinary School at Clark College.
Ron holds a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Portland with a major in Business and a minor in Psychology. Ron has been honored as Junior First Citizen of Vancouver, named to the Outstanding Young Men of America, and also named Outstanding Employer for work done with the Vancouver School District.
As the Mayor, Ron will replace Gladys Doriot who served as Mayor from 2002 through 2006. Ms. Doriot had been elected to City Council and began her tenure in 1992. Ms. Doriot is recognized as the first woman Mayor for the City of Ridgefield.
Matthew Swindell was also selected at the January 10, 2008 Council meeting and will serve the city as Mayor Pro Tempore. Mr. Swindell is employed at Summerplace Homes as the Community Development Land Acquisitions Manager. Mr. Swindell was born and raised in Ridgefield and currently resides here with his wife and four of his children.
Matt brings varied experience to the Council from land acquisitions, development of subdivisions, quality control and inspections with the U.S. Air Force housing authority, and sales and merchandising with Corwin Beverage. Matt also served in the United State Army. Matt has also experience with Boards and Commissions as he held the position of School Board member and currently serves as the Ridgefield Little League President.
The City of Ridgefield, incorporated in 1909, is a rapidly growing community located in northern Clark County, Washington approximately 10 miles north of Vancouver, Washington. Over the next 10 to 15 years, the City of Ridgefield expects to grow to a population of over 20,000 persons with an employment base of over 13,000 jobs. The City has adopted a Council-City Manager form of government. The City Manager acts as the chief executive officer of the City overseeing daily operations, annual budget development and implementation, and personnel. The City Manager works with a management team composed of the Director of Finance and Administration, the Community Development Director, the Public Works Director and the Police Chief to insure that community services are provided and that the policy directives of the City Council are carried out in the most efficient manner possible.
