Amboy Territorial Days
2004 Bull of the Woods honoring Charlie Silvis

Charlie is a special guy; everyone that knows him, likes him! A hard worker with a great disposition, and always a 'hi' to all. Hard work seems to be his middle name. He is always ready to lend a helping hand to neighbors and friends.

Charlie was born December 16, 1940, in Boston, Arkansas. He and his wife Sharon, were married in 1960 and raised two children, son Lorne, and daughter, Karen. They have 7 grandchildren.

When he was 18 years old he went to work for Weyerhaeuser in Raymond, WA. Following 4 years in Raymond he moved to Amboy where he worked for International Paper in Chelatchie Prairie. After working for I.P., he worked for a series of local gypo loggers, including: Baker & Brown, Ben Thomas, Jensen & Grove, Gould Bros., Bower, Wilson & Sutton, and Abernathy Logging. Good workers were able to keep busy by moving from company to company. He then decided to work for himself, finally contracting with Mike Rotschy and Kent Burns. Charlie had to retire due to an injury; while falling trees , he was hit with a 'widow-maker'

Charlie is famous for his skills as a carpenter, building homes and barns He has the expertise to remodel any room in a house. He was the volunteer constructing supervisor for the new logging arena stage, lending his knowledge and guidance to the younger volunteer work crews. In his 'retirement' (?), Charlie owns and operates a portable saw mill. All the 'board and batten' siding throughout the park was done by him.

Today, Charlie and his wife, Sharon are enjoying more free time, fishing, traveling, and especially spending time with the grandkids.
