A recognition picnic for the employees of and volunteers to the City of Woodland and their families was held August 14, 2012 at Horseshoe Lake Park. The City of Woodland Employee and Volunteer of the Year Award is given annually to the top Employee and Volunteer who have been nominated and voted for by their peers. Tree City USA

At the April 16, 2012 Woodland City Council Mayor Laseke made a proclamation recognizing Woodland as a Tree City USA for the 5th year in a row (2007-2011). At the same meeting Linden Mead from the Washington State Department of Natural Resources came to speak in support of the Tree City USA designation and presented the City with a Tree City USA Flag.

The flag will be displayed on April 27th at the Woodland Water Treatment Plant when trees will be planted at the water plant for the City’s Arbor Day event at noon. The address for the Water Treatment Plant is 130 Scott Hill Road, Woodland, WA 98674. Scott Hill Road is accessible from Old Pacific Highway. The public is invited to come and help plant the trees and celebrate Arbor Day in Woodland.

Horseshoe Lake Pump Presentation

At the April 16, 2012 Woodland City Council Meeting Chad Hancock and Mike London with the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) made a presentation on the Horseshoe Lake Pump. WSDOT removed the pump in December of 2011 to have it rebuilt and the rebuilt pump was put back in operation on April 13, 2012. The rebuilt pump will be able to pump 4,000 – 5,000 gpm depending on the varying river and lake levels. WSDOT also installed a new flowmeter to better track how much water is being pumped into the lake. Also at the meeting were several members of the Horseshoe Lake Management Committee.
