Woodlands 7th Annual Father Daughter Ball "Luau" was held Saturday, February 19th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at Woodland Elementary School and sponsored by Woodland's Grace Community Church.
This non-profit, community-service-focused event included dancing, refreshments, great tunes, and, most importantly, daddy-daughter bonding time; it was in every sense, in the words of Grace Pastor Todd Cloud, an opportunity for fathers, "To show their daughters the proper way to be treated like a lady (and to) give the girls a healthy benchmark standard to apply once they begin dating."
862 Fathers and Daughters attended the Ball supported by a cast of 40 or so volunteers ,servers, decorators, photographers, security personnel, music maestros, for 902 in attendance. In fact, organizers sold every last ticket at just $10 each, to include as many lovely daughters as a lucky dad may accompany, refreshments, AND free chance for great door prizes donated by 37 local businesses.
If you missed it this year, plan ahead for next year which will be geared toward formal; the Ball occurs in February, and ticket sales generally begin at the end of January at Woodland High School Pharmacy and Coffee Cove Cafe. Organizers use all proceeds for Ball costs, which keeps ticket prices to a minimum, and area retailers support the event by donating the door prizes. In that the Ball alternates between formal and casual, next year's Ball will be a more formal theme, to be specifically announced sometime in October. Casual or formal, the consensus seems clear, "Your daughter will love it, and so will you," said Marty Smith.
The following businesses donated door prizes or services:
