Fed up with the city employees - 11:10 a.m. 2/7/2008
My wife and I have lived here for over two years. When we bought our house, we discovered that the previous owners did not take care of the water bill and the city was owed over three hundred dollars. Well, we bregrudgingly agreed to pay it and ended up getting the money back from the title company for missing it on their search. The city employees were less than helpful if not outright rude. They knew the new address of the people that incurred the bill in the first place, but refused to go after them. They said that they would get their money from me. After living here and paying our bills religiously, we had a misstep and forgot to pay our water and sewer bill this month and our water was shut off. Not an issue, but when my wife went down to take care of it, she politly asked to have the fees waived and explained the situation and she was greeted with a rude woman who accused her of lying and walked away while she was still talking to here. I was infuriated after my wife called me at work crying after being treated this way. She was also able to see six other people in our neighborhood of 44 who were getting their water shut off that day. (so much for privacy) Even the man that was shutting off water was telling people what houses he was going to shut the water off. Anyone who pays their bills normally can't possibly be on a very good schedule the way the city bill comes out and when it is due. They give you about six days to pay it. What kind of people do we have working for us in this town? Is it really neccessary to treat people this way. I grew up in a small town, but it was nothing like this. People there treated each other with dignaty and respect and got the same in return. What a sad town.

Woodland flood protection. - 1:39 p.m. 1/28/2008
Inside the Woodland City Limits is a cement “sea wall” that runs along SR 503 and a city street. This wall is a flood protection wall. There is a gap in the wall where it crosses the state highway and continues along a city street as well as a couple of driveway gaps for residences along the city street. These gaps are designed to be closed using removable panels that are kept stored nearby at the local diking district. The last time these panels were put into place was during the flood of 1996. Since then, there are very few people left in local gov’t who have actually had anything to do with putting the wall up. The City wishes to conduct an exercise whereby the removable panels are put in place. If this exercise entails putting up all of the removable panels, it will have a noticeable impact on the SR 503 highway, which would have to be closed for the exercise. We have scheduled a pre-planning meeting for this exercise on Tuesday, February 12th, at 1:30 p.m. at the Woodland City Hall, Council Chambers, 100 Davidson Ave. The purpose of this first meeting will be to determine what the scope of this exercise will be. It could be as little as just doing a table top exercise on how it would happen in a real event…to an actual complete install of the panels.
