Pacific Power begins to lower Swift Reservoir AERIAL, Wash. — Pacific Power has begun to lower the level of its Swift Reservoir on the North Fork of the Lewis River in southwest Washington. Stream flow into Swift Reservoir is very low as a result of dry conditions and minimal snow pack and is not expected to improve through the summer. Low inflows, combined with a license requirement to provide stream flow for the fishery below Merwin Dam and power generation for PacifiCorp’s customers, will lead to lower than normal water levels later this summer. “This is an annual event, but exactly when it occurs and to what degree depends on a mix of runoff conditions, weather and power needs,” said Bill Fields, production manager for the company’s Lewis River projects. “Right now, Lake Merwin is very low and the Yale and Swift reservoirs above it are relatively high. As we move the water downstream, we’ll generate power and gradually lower the levels of the upper reservoirs. These are working reservoirs and, as such, can fluctuate throughout the summer.” Shifting the water from Swift will increase the water elevation of Lake Merwin. Meanwhile, the level at Swift will drop approximately five feet during the first part of July and possibly 20 feet by the end of August. This means that some of the boat docks on the eastern end of Swift may soon be out of the water. Pacific Power has informed homeowners in the area of the situation, and boaters have been advised to move any boats moored in affected marinas. Boaters also should be cautious of submerged hazards that may be present due to decreased reservoir levels. Although the drawdown at Swift will occur over the summer, the Swift Camp boat launch will remain available through Labor Day unless inflows are worse than anticipated. Pacific Power’s Lewis River Project consists of three generating facilities with a total capacity of 510 megawatts annually. It is the largest single source of hydro power in Pacific Power’s system. I lived in Woodland most of my life.I left a job of 15 year's to go to Wyoming. Now I would like to come home.I am told job's are very scarce.I am waiting eagerly for WALMART to come in.I understand WALMART work's with there employee's this would be good .I'm sure many people would benefit from this.No longer driving many mile's to work leaving more time for there family'sI am coming back and I will welcome WALMART as a local property owner. With the closing of Save-on-Foods leaving Safeway as the only large grocey store in town a Wal-Mart is very welcome. Safeway is among the most expensive stores.A Walmart would help the local economy by creating jobs and attracting other businesses like Taco Bell, BurgerKing etc. which would in turn attract other types of businesses. Woodland is smack in the middle of LongView and Vancouver so residents of Cougar and other small outlining communities would save alot of driving time. With gas at $3.00 per gallon. Discovery Pointe Southwest Washington Health Systems purchased the 75 acre Discovery Pointe site, northeast of the I-5-Ridgefield interchange from the Port of Ridgefield for $17.8 million. This is in the Discovery Corridor. Plans call for a medical clinic, retail complex, hotel and office buildings, and maybe a hospital in the future. Thousands of high paying jobs could be created. Port of Ridgefield Commissioners and Ridgefield Mayor Doriot said this was a perfect fit and the entire area will benefit.
