Arbor Day Learning

The Woodland High School Basic Life Skills Class and Transitions Exploration Classes participated in an Arbor Day learning experience. The students choose 10 trees on the high school campus and measured them using the standards of the US Forest Service. Using string, yard sticks, and lots of team work, the students measure the circumference of each tree, the height, and the crown spread. After getting the initial calculations, the students practice math skills by using the US Forest Service equations to allot points for each measurement. The students totaled the points for each tree, and determined that the large, broad leaf tree that sits on Park Street in front of the middle school is the largest tree on Campus. Tulip Trot

Click to enlargeApril 6, 2014 - The 2014 Tulip Trot was a great success; more than 500 runners participated in this 3rd annual event, which was hosted by Holland America Bulb Farms, Woodland WA. The weather was pleasant, it was dry, the participants were quite happy. The 5K route was nicely planned by Michael Mentler. It started on the bulb farm's parking lot then it went around beautiful tulip fields back to the parking lot. We had an incredible first place winner, Eric Dolezal, he ran the 5K in 16:25, second was Samuel Garvin, and the 3rd place went to Jeffrey Alberghini. Many participants said that they beat their personal record; others enjoyed the route walking it from start to finish. Many volunteers helped to make this event a wonderful experience for everyone who participated. From the proceeds an amount of more than $1,000.00 will be donated to the Woodland Action Center (local area Food Bank) by Holland America Bulb Farms. This event has grown every year since 2012; the expected number for the 2015 Tulip Trot is estimated to be at least 600 runners - Click here for more pictures.
