Nelson Holmberg

Nelson Holmberg has been the Communications Director for the Port of Vancouver since March 2007. Holmberg , who was on the staff of The Columbian for three years and for two years at The Oregonian, was also a media relations consultant and public relations senior account manager at Koopman Ostbo Marketing Communications in Portland before joining the Port.
A native of Vancouver, Holmberg graduated from Hudson's Bay High School, Clark College and Washington State University (Pullman), where he earned a bachelors degree in public relations from WSU's prestigious Edward R. Murrow College of Communications. He served eight years in the United States Naval Reserve (Seabees) as a builder and as his unit's public affairs liaison. He is also a 2008 graduate of Leadership Clark County where he was honored by his classmates to be the graduation speaker.
Holmberg's 22 years of media and public relations experience includes positions with The Oregonian, The Columbian, WSU Athletic Media Relations Office, Pac-10 Conference, Atlanta Glory and Portland Power professional women's basketball teams , as well as Northwest Public Power Association, Koopman Ostbo and the Port of Vancouver.
He is active in the Community, having served on the boards of Clark County Family WMCA, Clark College's Penguin Athletic Club. Columbia River High School Booster Club, and The Columbian's Readers Advisory Council. He is currently chairman of the www.myClarkInfo.org board of directors, vice-president of the Clark College Alumni Association board of directors, and is a member of the Parks Foundation board of directors, and the Port of Vancouver Employees Association.
He lives in Vancouver's Lincoln neighborhood with his wife and two dogs. The Holmberg's have two grown daughters - Brooke and Stephanie - and are expecting their first grandchild in September.
